New Wheels

Saturday: Took the S13 back to Le-Toy Motorsport to fix the starter AGAIN. Original starter went out, they replaced it. 2 months later, the new starter went out. They replaced it. It went out again a few days before I picked up the TE38 wagon. I took it back to them again to fix the damn thing again. They're getting sick of replacing the starter at their cost (love the warranty!), so they decided to do a bit of troubleshooting. The battery is the wrong battery for the car and is starving the starter... making it work extra hard and burning it up. So, a new battery will be in the works for Will.
Sunday: Will took the S13 today.
Before doing that, we needed to put new wheels on the S13 so I can get my Panasports back for the AE86. We bought Caleb's 17x7.5" Kosei K-1 wheels earlier today and mounted them using the TechnoToyTuning 4-to-5 lug adapters. Because they were 4-to-5 lug on the same PCD, they had a pretty tricky install. Very cool design. Of course, we took pics and I'll have an install writeup soon. The wheels look great on the car! I had been wanting to put those on ever since I got the S13 and they finally get put on the day it's getting sold. =(
The past week: Of course, as soon as Will got the S13 home, several problems popped up. He was checking the oil level and when he pulled on the dipstick, the entire dipstick tube pulled out of the engine block. He got that put back in just fine though.
Battery is finally dying. The least little thing drains it now. While we were installing the hub adapters, the dome light killed the battery. Then the battery died on Will from leaving the headlights on for a little while. Time for that new battery...
The power steering leaks like a sieve. I think it's just a leaky hose. I sent him home on Sunday with some hose clamps, hoping that it's just the hoses.
Will took off the chipping, crappy pin stripes.
W00t! Can't wait to see it all cleaned up when he comes back through Bakersfield on Friday. =) |

Mixed Emotions

I bought a new car over the weekend. An old school 1976 TE38 Toyota Corolla wagon. I'm pretty happy with it. However, with much sadness, that means I'm selling the 240sx. I can't afford two project cars anymore and the TE38 is just about exactly how I want it. It needs a few fiddly bits, but other than that, it's a car to cruise around in and haul all my stuff for work and family. I won't have the constant urge to make it bigger better faster more... and more expensive. Another reason I finally decided to move on was that in my line of work, the S13 is getting beat up. I haul around a lot of tools and get in the car all dirty all the time. I don't want that to ruin the Onevia.
The good news is that the Onevia is going to be in good hands with my friend Will - the one who helped me put in the suspension that's on it now. It will still stay "in the family" so to speak. He has the time and dedication to give the Onevia the attention it deserves. In fact, we still plan on keeping track of its progress here on DriftProject.
Someday I'd like to get another S13. I really will miss it, but this just means that I can concentrate on the AE86 and finally get that damn thing done. |

Speakers

Yesterday, I made the templates for the front speakers. (Templates!? Read about them here.) The speakers are mounted on the templates, the right speaker is installed. However, no wires are run yet, so I'm going to wait on the left door until I can do the wires and amp. After that, the rear speakers go in. I just got my digital camera back, so I'll take pics some time today.
There's a chance I'm going to sell the S13 for another car. If I had my way, I'd keep the S13 AND get a 3rd car, but I can't. The new car is RWD, old skool cool, and drifty. Bt I'll still be sad to see the S13 go. We'll see how that turns out...
